How to run gpedit as administrator

If you receive this message: “You do not have permission to perform this operation” with details “Access is denied” when trying to run gpedit as admin – it’s because you are starting the wrong shortcut.

Windows is a little tricky

This is the wrong one.
This is the correct one.

You must run gpedit.msc.

If you search for gpedit, you’ll see the control panel short cut for editing group policy – which cannot be started as admin explicitly.
